Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng from the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) has reaffirmed his willingness to hold dialogue with the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) in a move to address their post-election conflict.
On the sidelines of a parliamentary session in Phnom Penh on May 20, Sar Kheng said though the timing for negotiations has yet to be agreed, the CPP is always open to welcoming the CNRP back for talks.
Earlier, the Cambodian media quoted CNRP as saying that its President Sam Rainsy and Vice President Kem Sokha planned to resume talks with the CPP after the May 18 elections for municipal, provincial, and district councillors.
A political row between the two parties has persisted since the National Election Commission (NEC) announced the official result of parliamentary election last July.
Refusing to accept the results, the CNRP has boycotted the parliament, staged a number of demonstrations and demanded reforms of the NEC and the whole election system.-VNA
