The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho held a ceremony on April 24 to announce a decision to recognise a revolutionary base on Lo Vong Cung (Arc-shaped Road ) in My Khanh commune, Phong Dien district as a national historical relic site.
Under the decision, the Vietnamese army’s front medical station on Lo Vong Cung where rotations of troops took place and weapons were hidden during the anti-US resistance war, officially got the title on February 7, 2013.
Located along the Can Tho River, Lo Vong Cung has a total length of 30 kilometres. During the anti-US resistance war, it served as the enemy’s defensive area to protect the headquarters of the IV Corps Tactical Zone, Tra Noc Airport and representative offices of the US and its puppet government in Can Tho.
The area also marked many resounding feet of arms of the Vietnamese army and people, notably the Ong Hao victory that killed more than 600 US troops.
As a pride of local authorities and people, Lo Vong Cung is being built into a hick ecotourism belt where young people and tourists can learn the traditions of the heroic land during the war./-VNA
