Canada and Malaysia will continue strengthening their bilateral ties in the areas of security, trade and investment, Canadian PM Stephen Harper said during a working visit to Malaysia.
He learned about security and trade cooperation between the two nations during his visit to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency before witnessing the signing of a trade agreement between Canada ’s OSI Maritime System Ltd and the Malaysian Navy.
Speaking at a joint press conference on October 6 in the Malaysian administrative capital of Putrajaya, Mr. Harper stated that a Malaysian Petronas liquid natural gas (LNG) project worth 35 billion USD in Canada has proved to be a great business arrangement between the two countries.
For his part, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak affirmed the Petronas’ project will be mutually beneficial because it will open up Canadian energy to new markets, especially Malaysia.
The two leaders also discussed working together to develop their cultivation and transportation sectors and were present at the signing of a memorandum of understanding on avoiding double taxation and preventing tax evasion between the two countries.-VNA
