A 12-year-old boy of Vietnamese origin has skated into the history ofthe Canadian figure skating as the youngest ever winner of the Canadian Junior Men Figure Skating Championships held early this year.
Thetriumph, made in the male single’s event, is the latest that broadsmile-wearing Nam Nguyen has scooped from the ice-rink in Canada , anation strong in skating.
The boy earned his first championshiptitle at the Juvenile Men Championship in at age of eight, just threeyears after taking up the sport.
Two years later, Nam shined onthe rink again bagging two more championship titles in different agegroups at the Canadian Figure Skating Championship, namely Pre-Noviceand Novice.
The Canadian Press called Nam the skater of thefuture while his coach, Joanne McLeod, who has trained many figureskating champions in Canada , praised him for possessing a highdegree of musical absorbability and performing skills.
Thecurrent Grade 7 Brentwood Park Elementary Public School student said“When going over there, my goal wasn’t to beat the older guys. It was tolay down a fantastic skate and to entertain.”
Nam Nguyen hasshowed he is committed to the sport in the long term as he writes on hisown blog that “I am passionate about figure skating. I am verydedicated to my skating.”
Together with these championshiptitles, Nam Nguyen has also been hailed as a charming performer as heconfidently took the rink with such well-known figure skaters in theworld as Even Lysacek from the US and Patrick Chan from Canada at majorevents.
The boy unveiled that his immediate goal is to representCanada at the Grand Prix Figure Skating Competition hosted by theWorld Figure Skating Association in September this year.
He alsolooks to finish in the top 5 of the Canadian Figure SkatingChampionships scheduled for January 2012 and represent Canada at theworld skating championships and the Winter Olympics in 2014./.
