Thailand’s Public Health Ministry has proposed a new bill to regulate its cannabis industry and restrict marijuana uses to primarily health and medical purposes.

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said on May 8 that cannabis would be re-listed as a narcotic by the end of 2024, two years after the country became the first in the region to decriminalise its recreational use.

The Thai government will urgently move a bill to ban the recreational use of cannabis, which was taken off the list of banned narcotics in June 2022.
