A ceremony was held in southern Binh Duong province on May 31 to receive a certificate recognising the statue of Buddha entering Nirvana on the roof of the Hoi Khanh pagoda as the longest example in Asia.
The record was recognised by the India-based Asia Book of Records.
The statue is located in the 13,000 square metre ground of the Hoi Khanh pagoda, the Buddhism centre of Binh Duong. It is 52 metres long, 12 metres high and rests 24 metres above the ground.
The statue was inaugurated in March, 2010, and used to be recognised as Vietnam ’s longest lying Buddha statue.-VNA
