Cherry blossom festival to open in Ha Long

The 2013 Cherry Blossom Festival will be held at the Lan Be park in Ha Long city, the northern province of Quang Ninh on April 11-13.
The 2013 Cherry Blossom Festival will be held at the Lan Be park in HaLong city, the northern province of Quang Ninh on April 11-13.

Themed “A Japanese cultural feature in Ha Long”, the event is part ofactivities to mark the 40 th anniversary of the establishment ofdiplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan (September 21) andVietnam-Japan Friendship Year.

The festival, the firstof its kind held in Quang Ninh province, aims to promote culturalexchange, friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The festival will include a showcase of 100 Hikan cherry branchesshipped from Nago city, Okinawa prefecture, and five Garyuu cherry treesfrom Takayama city, Gifu prefecture, said the Quang Ninhprovincial People’s Committee and the Department of Information andCommunications on April 2.

There will also be atrade fair to introduce handicraft products, tourism services andspecial foods, art performances, and an exhibition of art paintings andportrait drawings.

On this occasion, Japan will present 100 cherry trees to Ha Long city to plant in Lan Be park.-VNA
