Vietnamese players flied to the Philippines on May 17 to take part in the Asian Chess Championships, which will open one day later.
Vietnam’s men team consists of six members, namely Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Nguyen Van Huy and Tran Tuan Minh.
The women team includes Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Nguyen Thi Nhu Y, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Le Thanh Tu.
The athletes will compete in men’s and women’s singles in the 9-round Swiss format.
This is the fourth time the Philippines has hosted the championships. Last year, Asian championship title went to Indian grandmaster Parimarjan Negi.
After the 2013 tournament, five best male players and one best female player will earn tickets to compete in the World Cup scheduled to take place later this year.
