China’s National Meteorological Center (NMC) on July 19 continued atop-level red alert for super typhoon Rammasun as downpours and galessweep southern coastal provinces.
According to China’s Xinhuanews agency, Typhoon Rammasun, believed to be the strongest to hit southChina in 41 years, made its third landfall in Guangpo, Fangchenggangcity, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on July 19 morning.
Earlieron July 18, typhoon Rammasun made a second landfall in Zhanjiang cityin south China 's Guangdong province four hours after the first.
Thetyphoon landed in Longtangzhen in Xuwen County in Zhanjiang,packing gales of 60 metres per second. Xuwen County, on thesouthernmost tip of the Chinese mainland, is more than 800 km from theprovincial capital Guangzhou.
As of July 18 night, Rammasunhad wreaked havoc across Guangdong and Hainan provinces, killing atleast one in Wenchang and forcing more than 20,000 out of their homes inHainan province’s capital of Haikou, according to local authorities.
TheNMC also forecast moderate to heavy rain in Inner Mongolia AutonomousRegion, northeast China and north China from July 20-21.
Earlier, Rammasun wreaked havoc in the Philippines , killing 64 locals and injuring 103 others.-VNA
