Beijing (VNA) – China on June 29 reiterated its support for the Philippines in the fight against terrorism.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks at a press conference following a meeting with his Philippine counterpart Alan Peter Cayetano in Beijing.

Wang said China has sent its first shipment of emergency supplies and equipment to the Philippines and will continue to provide necessary support.

He added that Beijing is willing to coordinate with regional countries, including the Philippines, to cooperate in information exchange, law enforcement and fighting cross-border terrorism and other issues, in order to maintain peace and stability in the region.

The two sides also reviewed cooperation between China and the Philippines since the normalisation of bilateral relations in October 2016.

China is the largest trade partner of the Philippines. The two countries have signed 22 cooperation documents in infrastructure, trade, agriculture, energy, tourism and other fields.  The Philippines' exports to China have significantly increased in the past seven months.

According to Wang, the two sides also agreed to enhance cooperation via the Belt and Road Initiative.

He affirmed that China will support the Philippines as rotational chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year to deepen China-ASEAN relations and cooperation with Southeast Asian countries.-VNA
