Coffee exporters from the southern province of Dong Nai shipped over 100,000 tonnes in the first four months of 2014, a double increase year-on-year, with the US and German topping the list.
Quach Van Duc, Director of Tin Nghia Corporation - one of the country’s three biggest coffee exporters, said the price in April averages 2,100 USD per tonne.
He said that the Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam has pledged a 22 million USD package for the company to sell the product to Asia and Europe.
The corporation will raise its output to 140,000 tonnes (260 million USD) in the 2013-2014 crop from 100,000 tonnes (200 million USD).
It has 1,000 ha under coffee in Laos, which is at the harvest period.
Coffee is one of Vietnam’s major hard currency earners, with the Central Highlands as the largest growing area. Its exports are forecast to continue thriving in the second quarter of this year.
Last year, the country exported 1.32 million tonnes of coffee, earning 2.75 billion USD.-VNA
