Hanoi (VNA) – A conference was held in Hanoi on April 25 to discuss the development of cultural industries in Vietnam, aiming to clarify the definition of cultural industries and creative spaces, and open up opportunities for dialogue between creative hubs and policy makers.
Koen Duchateau, head of the Development and Cooperation Department under the EU Delegation to Vietnam, said the agency considers cultural development as the core of cooperation with countries around the world.
In Vietnam, culture is developing strongly with the engagement of many youngsters, he noted, saying that encouraging creative hubs to give new ideas helps contribute to Vietnam’s development.
The EU and the British Council have funded a project of creative cultural space in Vietnam in 2018-2021, he noted.
The project has proposed activities focusing on developing a network of creative cultural and art spaces to connect artists and creators with their audiences, he said.
According to Assistant Prof. Dr. Bui Hoai Son, it is necessary to raise the awareness of the role of creative spaces in Hanoi’s development, using them to motivate the city’s growth.
Le QuocVinh, a communications expert, said that in recent years, the Government has created favourable conditions for creative spaces, with the opening of more support centres and easier licence issuing procedures for performing activities.
Vinh said that to optimise their potential, creative hubs need the assistance of the State via preferential tax rates, support in operational venues and licence granting policies.-VNA
