The UK-based International Power PLC, Japan’s Sojitz, and the local Thai Binh Duong Joint Stock Company have received approval from Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai to develop the infrastructure for the Son My thermal power plant in central Binh Thuan province.
The province’s Department of Industry and Trade said the 4.9billionUSD plant would be developed under a BOO (build-operate-own) or BOT (build-operate-transfer) model.
It will have three generating units, Son My 1, 2, 3, with a total capacity of 3,600MW.
The plant, to be built in the Son My 1 Industrial Park in Ham Tan district, is expected to be completed in 2018, with the first unit put into operation in 2015./.
