Construction of south-central fisheries centre discussed

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a discussion with the People’s Committee of central Khanh Hoa province on June 2 regarding the construction of a fisheries centre in the South Central region this year.

The 46-hectarefisheries centre will be built between 2015 and 2018 at a total cost ofover 1.56 trillion VND (71.7 million USD), including 184 billion VND(8.4 million USD) of Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) fund,732 billion VND (33.56 million USD) from the State budget, 120 billionVND (5.5 million USD) from the local budget and 528 billion VND (24.2million USD) from the private sector.

Located atDa Bac Port in Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province, the project isintended to assist local fishermen in logistics to improve the qualityand value of fish and other aquatic species caught at sea.

MARD Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam stressed that once completed, theSouth Central fisheries centre would serve as an example for theconstruction of the remaining centres approved by the Prime Minister.

The provincial People’s Committee should workclosely with relevant bodies to prepare necessary paperwork and draw up adetailed plan for the project, he said, adding that the centre shouldinclude proper shelter for fishing vessels during storms.

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Dao Cong Thien noted that theprovince has been working on a plan to upgrade the Da Bac fish port tofirst class standards.

The south-centralfisheries centre is among five centres to be built nationwide from2015-2020. The remaining are located in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Kien Gianprovinces, Da Nang and Hai Phong city.

Each willhave a wholesale market, a refrigerated fish-storage area, a fresh fishstorage area, a fishing port and other facilities.

The fishery centre ports are expected to be capable of accommodatingvessels weighing up to 20,000 tonnes and offer a storm shelter forfishing boats.-VNA

Vietravel Airlines to add new route serving Lunar New Year travel peak

During the peak period of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival in 2026, Vietravel Airlines plans to operate six – eight flights daily on the Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi route, three flights daily on the Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City – Vinh routes; and two flights daily on the Ho Chi Minh City – Quy Nhon route.

Can Tho–Ca Mau expressway fully opens from January 19

The new section, together with the Can Tho–Hau Giang segment that has been operating smoothly since late December last year, has completed the entire 110.85-km route. With total investment exceeding 27.52 trillion VND (1.04 billion USD), the four-lane expressway is built to modern standards and serves as a key transport artery linking major economic and political centres, industrial zones and seaports in the southwestern region.
