The construction sector performed its tasks and goals well for 2011, although the national economy was in difficulty, and the sector needs to continue promoting its achievements this year.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made this statement at a conference on construction tasks for 2012, held in Hanoi on Jan. 6.
He praised efforts by the sector to overcome challenges, fulfill its goals and tasks, and competently perform State management on construction, architecture and planning of urban technical infrastructure, along with industrial, economic and high-tech zones.
In particular, the sector did a good job in building social housing and housing for poor people in difficult areas, he said, urging it to continue promoting these programmes in 2012.
In addition to the sector’s achievements, the PM pointed out the sector’s shortcomings and weakness.
The sector should pay attention to effectiveness of State management in urban and rural planning and development and ensure the quality of projects, Dung said.
He urged the sector to complete institutions for planning, improve efficiency of construction works and focus on development of social housing for needy people, particularly in major cities, considering it as the sector’s political task.
The Ministry of Construction should study the development and management of the real estate market and raise the role and responsibility of State management in inspecting, assessing, permitting and supervising investment projects, creating favourable conditions for local construction companies to be able to compete in the region and the world.
PM Dung also directed the Ministry to strengthen supervision and inspection of human resource training in State enterprises, to meet the country’s demand./.
