Customs sector handles 1,148 smuggling cases in April

The customs sector handled 1,148 trafficking cases with products valuing 195 billion VND (8.44 million USD) during the period from March 16 to April 15, collecting 42 billion VND for the State budget, said the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Hanoi (VNA) – The customs sector handled 1,148 trafficking cases with products valuing 195 billion VND (8.44 million USD) during the period from March 16 to April 15, collecting 42 billion VND for the State budget, said the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Five cases were transferred to competent agencies for legal actions.

Trafficked goods were primarily wildlife products, particularly rhino horns, along with refined sugar, tobacco, beer, powdered milk, pharmaceutical products and cosmetics, among others. They were transported via air routes, seaports, post and land border crossings.

The customs force also detected some businesses that violated regulations on labeling and places of origin and manufacturing.

Of note, the northern anti-trafficking investigation unit detained a ship which illegally transferred 6,550 tobacco packages to another vessel and dropped 2,000 other packages at sea.

The inspection post at Dan Tien port in Quang Ninh province, in coordination with economic police of Mong Cai city, detained a person with 3,115 kg of suspected rhino horns.

The customs posts at Cha Lo border gate, Quang Binh province, and Lao Bao border gate of Quang Tri provinces found two companies stocking rice and goods without proper invoices./.
