Prague (VNA) – Several experts from the Czech Republic have shared their view that the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam, slated for February 27-28, will help raise Vietnam’s position in the international arena, especially in the eyes of global powers.
The event is also expected to contribute to maintaining security in Asia-Pacific, particularly Northeast Asia, they said.
Dr. Takashi Hosoda, an expert on Asia-Pacific security and a lecturer at the Charles University of the Czech Republic, told the Vietnam News Agency that the selection of Hanoi as the venue of the summit is significant for Vietnam.
This reflects Vietnam’s enhanced position in the international arena, while helping spur local tourism, he said.
The event manifests the US’s confidence in Vietnam and is an opportunity to enhance relations between the two countries, the expert said.
Hosoda showed his optimism about outcomes of the meeting which, he said, will create momentum to push for the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
Jan Hornat, an expert on Czech-US relations at the Institute of International Relations under the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the summit would benefit Vietnam in terms of politics, economy and strategy.
It demonstrates thriving relations between Vietnam and the US as this is the second trip to Vietnam by President Donald Trump, he said.
Vaclav Kopecky from the Association for International Affairs also expressed his hope that the summit will help ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and stabilise security in Asia-Pacific./.
