Bangkok Governor Aswin Khwanmuang on September 17 alerted citizens to dengue fever as the city has recorded nearly 6,000 infections and five fatalities so far this year.

The disease is spreading in Nong Chok, Huai Khwang, Bang Kapi and Klong Samwa districts. Khwanmuang said the spreading was attributed to heavy and consistent rain in the city.

To cope with dengue fever, the local authorities have increased disease control measures, including fumigation to kill mosquito larvae. Local people are advised to keep their home and neighbouring areas clean, not to litter or let water collect at any site, as well as keep all drains clean and clear.

Anyone who suffered from a fever for more than three days should see a doctor right away, he said.
