Many Russian generals and military experts are still studying Vietnam’s Dien Bien Phu victory, which has been acknowledged as one of the greatest feats against invaders in the world military history. A report by radio The Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

According to Doctor of Military Science Anatoli Khiupenen, who led Soviet military experts to Vietnam during the resistance against US imperialists, the Dien Bien Phu victory vividly represents Vietnamese people’s intellect.

“That was a glorious success of the guerrilla warfare under the talented leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap. I like the comparison between Vietnam’s Dien Bien Phu campaign and Soviet Union’s battle of Stalingrad because in this battle, we won the first victory which is important to us to win the Great Patriotic War against Nazism,” Khiupenen said on radio.

A number of books about the Dien Bien Phu victory have been published in Russia. The victory was introduced in a recent book featuring the 77 best known combats, compiled by Anatoli Sokolov, a researcher of Vietnamese studies.

When the idea of introducing the greatest victories in history was approved three years ago, all book makers agreed to include the Dien Bien Phu campaign, Sokolov said.

"This victory decided the future of not only Vietnamese but people worldwide. It has proven that once the people are determined to fight for independence, they will achieve it. The victory motivated people around the world to fight for national independence," he affirmed.-VNA
