Disabled, disadvantaged children receive care

The Johnson & Johnson Medical SA Inc. of the US will provide 80,000 USD to the Hanoi Children Protection Fund to help disabled and disadvantaged children in the capital city.

Under the one-year project, the fund will reprint 3,000 books on rehabilitation for children with disabilities and train 300 rehabilitation technicians.

The fund will also organise music - arts and life skills classes for disabled and HIV affected children and make a software programme on the management of disadvantaged children.

The fund aims to mobilised around 13 billion VND to help disadvantaged children this year.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam Children Protection Fund will help 377 disadvantaged children with harelip and cleft palates to receive surgery from now until the end of next month.

Under its programme sponsored by Operation Smile, around 150 children from northern Hai Duong province, Hanoi and central Thanh Hoa and Ha Tinh provinces will undergo operation from July 18-22, around 100 children in northern Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh and Quang Ninh provinces from August 8-12, and 127 others in northern mountainous provinces, also in August.

The fund has provided free surgery to 250 children with deformities at a total cost of 462 million VND in the first half of the year./.
