According to Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Import-Export Association, this year, the US remains one of the largest markets of Dong Nai’s products.
In 2013, exports to the US market hit 3.17 billion USD, accounting for about 30 percent of the provincial’s total revenue.
He advised local enterprises to pay special attention to technical barriers in the US market, as from 2014, all disqualified exports to the US will no longer be allowed to be re-exported but forced to be destroyed.
The provincial Department of Industry and Trade reported that many local businesses have received enough orders from the US to ensure full operation until the end of the second quarter.
Key hard currency earners of Dong Nai include garment and textile, footwear, wood products and agricultural products, it said.
The department’s head, Le Van Danh, said he believes local exporters will enjoy more opportunities in the US market this year, based on forecast of higher growth of the US economy and hopes that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement can be concluded later this year.
He said the department recently met with the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam to discuss ways to establish links between US partners and Dong Nai businesses.
At the same time, the department has a plan to collaborate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in organising workshops on the TPP and Free Trade Agreements Vietnam has signed for exporters in the province.
According to Danh, the provincial authorities will keep close contact with businesses to give them timely support in overcoming obstacles and updated information on local import-export situation and credit packages.
He said the province will try to increase market share in Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Australia and some regional countries including Cambodia and Myanmar, which have great demands for key products of Dong Nai.-VNA
The southern province of Dong Nai has launched a number of activities to assist local enterprises in expanding export market, especially to the US, in a bid to increase the province’s export turnover by at least 10 percent over last year.
