DPRK prepares itself for six-party talks

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on August 1 announced it would resume six-party talks on a nuclear-free Korean peninsula, without any preconditions.

A spokesperson from the DPRK Foreign Ministry said: “The DPRK remains unchanged in its stance to resume the six-party talks without preconditions at early date and comprehensively implement the September 19 joint statement on the principle of simultaneous action.”

The announcement came after the DPRK recently concluded “constructive” talks with the US in New York . The talks focused on the issues of improving bilateral relations, ensuring stability in the Korean peninsula and the resumption of six-party talks.

Chief negotiators representing the two Koreas at six-party nuclear talks met in Bali , Indonesia in July. It was the first meeting between nuclear negotiators from the two Koreas in three years, after Pyongyang withdrew from the six-party talks in April, 2009./.
