East Asian economic ministers hold consultation

At the meeting, part of the 44 th ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM-44), participants shared their views on global and regional issues impacting East Asia and the development in economic cooperation between regional countries.

They hailed the official decision on formalizing the meeting of East Asian Economic Ministers, which had previously met on an informal basis since 2008. They welcomed the participation of Russia and the US at the meeting, appreciating this as a new factor to cooperation and economic integration in East Asia .

Affirming support for ASEAN’s efforts towards the inaugural of an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015, the ministers emphasised the group’s deeper economic integration by 2015 through the enhancement of its participation in global systems, including the ASEAN connectivity programme.-VNA
