Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration Ricardo Patino Aroca has confirmed that his government has received an asylum request from Edward Snowden, the fugitive US intelligence leaker.
Minister Aroca made the confirmation at a press conference in Hanoi on June 24 during his two-day official visit to Vietnam.
The Ecuadorian Government is analysing the request with a sense of responsibility, the Minister told the press, adding that it will take into account the US’s stance and make the decision at the right moment in line with the Constitution, law, international political activities and sovereignty of Ecuador.
Edward Snowden was charged with espionage and leaking the US intelligence information.
Earlier on June 23, he left Hong Kong on Aeroflot SU150 for the third country via Moscow.-VNA
