Efforts underway to restore Nha Trang Bay's natural treasures

Nha Trang Bay in Khanh Hoa province, famed for its rich marine ecosystem, has suffered ecological degradation over the years. However, after 1.5 years of dedicated restoration efforts, notable improvements are now visible.

Like many business owners around the tourist wharf area, Trinh Thi Be has not sold single-use plastic products to tourists for over a year.

When visitors inquire or bring plastic items, she and other women actively inform them of the Nha Trang Bay Management Board's regulations, which discourage plastic bottles on the bay. All efforts aim to foster a greener, more sustainable Nha Trang Bay.

In addition to enforcing the ban on single-use plastics during tours of the bay, Khanh Hoa has also prohibited fishing activities and scuba diving to protect the coral reefs.

Recent surveys of the core marine area of Nha Trang Bay reveal a growing return of marine species, with an increasing diversity of sea life such as fish and turtles.

Although coral grows slowly under even the best natural conditions, there are encouraging signs of growth in Nha Trang Bay. In some areas, coral coverage has reached as much as 5%.

Experts say for the marine environment in Nha Trang Bay to recover, favorable natural conditions alone are not enough. A comprehensive environmental protection strategy is necessary, including human resources, financial support, and policies.

It is expected that with proactive efforts and concrete actions in protecting Nha Trang Bay's environment, the bay will continue to grow greener, leaving a lasting impression on both domestic and international visitors./.
