An engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was signed in the central province of Binh Thuan on March 25 for the Vinh Tan 1 thermal power plant, a main facility in the Vinh Tan Power Centre.
Signatories include investors of the over-2-billion-USD project and its contractors GEDI and GPEC of China’s Power International Holding Co., Ltd.
The investors are the Phuong Nam Electricity Co.,Ltd., China’s Power International Holding Co., Ltd, and the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group.
The two-turbine plant with a combined capacity of 1,200MW, part of the country’s largest coal-fired complex, is expected to start operation by 2018 and generate over 7 billion kWh for the national grid on an annual basis, helping ease the power shortage in the south.
It will be transferred to Vietnam after 25 years of its commercial operation.-VNA
