Lawmakers stressed the need for education in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas, when the National Assembly (NA) discussed adjustments to investment policies in the national target programme for socio-economic development in these areas for the 2021 – 2030 period at its ongoing 7th plenary session on June 17.

The Government on May 22 submitted to the 15th National Assembly (NA) a proposal on adjustments to the investment policy for the national target programme on boosting the socio-economic development of ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-2030 period, aiming to facilitate the disbursement of capital for the programme.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh has signed a decision issuing an action framework on mechanism and policy reform to support the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas in the 2021-2030 period.

Greater attention should be paid to ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas while designing socio-economic development plans in the future to ensure no one is left behind, many deputies to the 15th National Assembly (NA) have suggested.

Many policies for ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas, and extremely disadvantaged areas were developed and implemented during the 2013-2020 period with the coordination between the Government Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs and the Vietnam Farmers Union (VFU).

National Assembly (NA) deputies heard a proposal and a verification report on the national target programme on socio-economic development in ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas for 2021-2030, during the on-going ninth session of the 14th NA on the morning of May 28.

Legislators will begin discussions on socio-economic issues on October 26, the fifth working day of the 14th National Assembly’s sixth session.

Minister-Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Affairs Do Van Chien has pointed out that ethnic minority-inhabited and mountainous areas have suffered most difficulties, with a high rate of poor households.
