Ethnic woman wins first gold for Vietnamese cycling team

Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh, a cyclist from the Muong ethnic group, has won the first gold medal for the Vietnamese cycling team at the ongoing SEA Games 31.

Quynh finished her race in the cross-country event on May 16 with a time of 1:18:5, leaving her Malaysian rivals Natahsya Soon and Nuz Assyria behind.

She said the gold holds significant meaning for her, as this is the first time she has competed in her hometown of Hoa Binh.

On May 17, in the men and women’s cross-country relay, the Vietnamese team completed the 20.8-km race only 34 seconds behind their Malaysian counterparts and picked up the silver.

Cycling events will continue in Hoa Binh province on May 19, with road races still to come./.
