The European Commission (EC) will allocate an additional 3 million EUR (3.9 million USD) in humanitarian aid to help those affected by conflict in Myanmar.

This brings the EU’s total humanitarian assistance to 48.6 million EUR for 2012-2013, said the commission’s recent press release.

Clashes between the Government army and the Kachin Independence Organisation have left thousands in the northeastern states of Rakhine, Kachin and San displaced.

The new fund will be used to bring food, nutrition and livelihood support to the most vulnerable of the affected people in these localities.

The EC has sent a mission to the country to access the humanitarian situation and join local authorities in helping the victims.

Over the past two decades, the EU’s humanitarian aid for Myanmar has amounted to 179 million EUR.-VNA
