Nghe An (VNA) – Candles werelit at the Vietnam-Laos martyr cemetery in the central province of Nghe An onJuly 15 to remember more than 11,000 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid downtheir lives in Laos during wartime.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue spoke highly ofthe two countries' treasured friendship throughout their struggles for nationalindependence in the past.

Vietnamese volunteer soldiers considered Laos as their second homeland andreceived great affections from local residents, he added.

The Deputy PM noted the event aims at calling for community support forveterans who are having a difficult life after coming back from the war.

On the occasion, Hue presented gifts to heroic mothers and families of peoplewho rendered service to the nation.

As part of the commemoration, there was a talk show where former Vietnamesesoldiers in Laos told their stories.-VNA

Phu Tho: 200kg bomb safely relocated, detonated

According to a report by the Phu Tho Military Command, local residents spotted the bomb on August 31 in the Da River after the river water receded, exposing it beneath mud and soil on the riverbed. The bomb remained intact, including its fuse, and was located about 300m from a residential area.
