Hanoi (VNA) – The famous play The Bat, composed by Johann Strauss II, will be staged in Ho Chi Minh City on October 28, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).
The operetta will be staged by the HBSO in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Vietnam. It will come in Vietnamese while the lyrics will be sung in German, conducted by Tran Nhat Minh.
The performance will be directed by young and talented German-French stage director David Hermann. He previously staged The Magic Flute and The Marksman of the HBSO.
Johann Strauss II was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King".
The Bat, which was written in 1874, is the best known among his operettas.-VNA
