Festival seeks to build brand names for southern traditional cakes

Can Tho (VNA) – The eighth annualSouthern Traditional Cake Festival, slated for April 12-16, will aim to make abrand name for the tasty treats, the festival’s organiser has said.

The goal is creating national brand namesfor the cakes, Nguyen Khanh Tung, Director of the Can Tho Trade, InvestmentPromotion and Exhibition Centre, said at a working session with representativesof relevant departments and agencies on April 11.

After seven festivals, there have signs of improvedcompetitiveness of producers and expanded consumption market for the cakes,according to the official.

Therefore, apart from annual culturalactivities, the eighth version will include trade promotion, he said, addingthat businesses and restaurants invited to the event come from eight countries,namely Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Italy, France, Malaysia, Singaporeand Thailand.  

Various types of cakes made by Kinh, Hoa,Khmer and Cham ethnic people will be displayed at the festival, Tung said.  

Of note, 83 artisans nationwide will showoff their skills at a contest, with 70 kinds of cakes to be made. Businessesand facilities of the winning artisans will be supported to introduce theircakes at luxurious hotels and restaurants, and register brand names for their products,gearing towards exports.

Within the framework of the festival, therewill be a seminar to seek markets for southern traditional cakes on April 16.
