Finance Ministry remains on top of E-Government Development Index 2018

Hanoi (VNA)– The Ministry of Finance (MoF) continued leading the country in E-GovernmentDevelopment Index 2018 in the category of ministries and ministerial-level agencies.

According to a reportassessing the application of information technology of ministries andministerial-level agencies, governmental agencies and centrally-run cities andprovinces, released at a conference in Hanoi on April 25, the MoF was followedby the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Information andCommunications, much higher than the 17th and 7th position of the 2017 index, respectively.

Among the governmentalagencies, the Vietnam Social Security maintained its top position, followed bythe Vietnam News Agency and the Vietnam Television.

Meanwhile, in terms ofcentrally-run provinces and cities, the central city of Da Nang topped thelist, followed by its neighbouring province of Thua Thien-Hue, and the northernport province of Quang Ninh.

The rankings witnessedgreat efforts by several localities, including Ninh Binh (from the 50th to 16th position), and Hau Giang (from the 59th to 27th place).

At the conference,participants analysed the implementation of online public services and shareexperience in building an online public service provision and management systemeffectively.

Do Thanh Huyen, publicmanagement policy analyst from the UN Development Programme in Vietnam, saidthat the popularization of e-government services remains limited in Vietnam.

Therefore, agenciesand units should intensify disseminations on the presence of their onlinepublic service portals as well as information about policies and procedures toincrease the public’s access to online public services, she suggested.

Head of the Institutefor Policy Studies and Media Development Nguyen Quang Dong stressed the need toimprove the quality of online public services to reduce costs and transactionduration, and increase the transparency and openness.-VNA

AI powers sweeping overhaul of Vietnam’s education system

Digital transformation gathers pace nationwide

Adopted by the Politburo in late 2024, Resolution 57 positions science – technology development, innovation, and digital transformation as a top important breakthrough and strategic pillar for Vietnam’s development in the new era. Early implementation shows a clear shift toward data-driven governance and technology-enabled public services.

Plan issued to implement Vietnam–France agreement on science-technology cooperation

Under the plan, the Ministry of Science and Technology will take the lead, in coordination with relevant ministries and agencies, in directing, guiding, monitoring and inspecting the implementation of the agreement. The ministry will also prepare reports on the signing and implementation progress for submission to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for consolidation and reporting to competent authorities as required.
