Domestic businesses should work together closer to protect brand names and prestige of Vietnamese aquatic products on both local and word markets, said Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan.

Doan delivered the request at a ceremony held in Hanoi on Jan. 23 to present first-ever national awards to 78 outstanding units, companies and individuals that are operating in the fields of aquaculture, seafood netting, processing for export, logistics services and scientific research.

The leader asked concerned ministries and agencies to create favourable conditions for fishermen and aquaculture farmers and adopt opener mechanisms, especially those regarding credits and infrastructure and technological development, for businesses to approach to the international market.

Despite facing numerous difficulties in 2009, the fishery sector recorded a lot of encouraging achievements, with combined export turnover hitting 4.2 billion USD.

The sector set the target of catching 2.3 million tonnes of seafood and raise 2.8 million tonnes of aquatic products this year./.
