A festival to pray for good fishing harvest, known as Cau Ngu Festival,commenced in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on August 22.
The festival, which takes place in Phong Dien district’s Phong Haicommune, not only honour the cultural values of the nation but alsoreflects the spiritual life of people living in Vietnam’s coastal areas.
The two-day event opens with rituals to offersacrifices to the gods practiced by prestigious people. It is followedby lion dances and performances re-enacting fish catching and tradingactivities in a coastal village.
The festival alsofeatures a procession of the whale god through villages to the communalhouse as well as the floating of flower garlands and coloured lanternsto the sea.-VNA
