Vietnam’s export of fishery products is expected to reach 4.4 billion USD during January-June, a year-on-year increase of 6%, despite such formidable challenges as extreme weather conditions and competitive pressure regarding export prices, high input costs and shortage of materials, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Vietnam shipped an estimated 3.6 billion USD worth of fishery products abroad during January-May, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Despite a sharp fall in exports before the end of 2022 due to global inflation, tuna still brought home 1 billion USD in revenue last year, up 34% from 2021, becoming a billion-dollar commodity for the first time, data showed.

Total fishery output in the first nine months of this year is estimated at 6.75 million tonnes, up 2.7% from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam’s fishery export hit 1 billion USD in May, up 27 percent year-on-year but down from the 1.1 billion USD recorded in the previous month, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported.
