Footwear exports hit 7.9 billion USD

The General Customs Department reported that by December 15, Vietnam earned 7.9 billion USD from footwear export, 14.9 percent higher than the same period last year.

The performance is likely to help the country reach its set export target of 8 billion USD for the product this year.

The US remained the key importer of Vietnamese footwear. It purchased 2.3 billion USD over the past 11 months, accounting for more than 30 percent of the country’s total footwear export value. The figure also represented a year-on-year rise of 16.9 percent.

The UK was Vietnam’s second most important footwear customer with imports worth 496.8 million USD, up 8.9 percent.

It was followed by Belgium with 456.1 million USD, up 26.8 percent. Germany and Japan came next, with 388.9 million USD and 349.7 million USD, respectively.

Currently, about 1,100 enterprises are involved in footwear production in Vietnam. They have employed 720,000 workers. In addition, there are thousands of individual producers and handicraft villages that take part in exporting footwear.-VNA
