Hanoi (VNA) – An event wasarranged on January 12 for the diplomatic corps in Hanoi to explore Vietnam’straditional New Year (Tet) festival.

The event, jointly organised by the CulturalDiplomacy and UNESCO Affairs Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairsand the ASEAN Women’s Circle of Hanoi (AWCH), was among the first culturalexchange activities of the ASEAN Year 2020.       

It aimed to bolster exchanges betweennations and introduce Vietnamese traditions and customs to foreign friends,thus tightening solidarity and friendship between ASEAN countries as well aspromoting Vietnam’s images.

The event also featured a contest to make banhchung (square glutinous rice cake), with foreign ambassadors, charge d’affairesand their spouses joining local residents throughout the process of making thisindispensable dish for Tet.

Italian Ambassador to Vietnam AntonioAlessandro said the event helps participants understand more about Vietnamesepeople’s Tet, the largest yearly festival in the country./.
