Former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee dies at 91

Former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew passed away early on March 23 at the age of 91, the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore said in a statement.
Former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew passed away early onMarch 23 at the age of 91, the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore saidin a statement.

The Former PM passed away peacefully, the statement said.

He has been hospitalised since February 5 this year because of severepneumonia and was on life support and antibiotics at the special careunit of the Singapore General Hospital.

Thereduced health distanced himself from the public recently. The formerPM’s latest public appearance was at the 60th founding anniversary ofthe People’s Action Party last November.

LeeKuan Yew was the founding Prime Minister of Singapore and the father ofthe current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He has been widely creditedwith turning Singapore into one of the most affluent economies in Asiawithin three decades.

He was Singapore’s Prime Minister from 1959 to 1990 and is viewed as an influential politician on the island nation.-VNA
