From foe to friend: Việt Nam-The United States relationship

Vietnam and the US established diplomatic ties on July 12, 1995. Positive strides have been recorded in bilateral relations in all spheres since the countries established a comprehensive partnership.

The United States is not only is the world's most important economic and political center, but also has many breathtaking natural landscapes and beautiful architectural works.

Vietnam and the US established diplomatic ties on July 12, 1995. Positive strides have been recorded in bilateral relations in all spheres since the countries established a comprehensive partnership in July 2013. Since 2015, the two sides have accelerated the exchange of high-level visits, including those to the US by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong in 2015 and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in 2017, as well as visits to Vietnam by President Barrack Obama in 2016 and President Donald Trump in 2017.

The US has been Vietnam’s largest export market for several consecutive years, meanwhile The US exports to Vietnam have increased dramatically over the years. In the past 25 years, two-way trade surged nearly 120 times, from 450 million USD in 1994 to more than 60 billion USD in 2018.

As of this year, the US ranked 11th out of 132 foreign investors in Vietnam with 951 projects worth 9.1 billion USD./.
