Frozen durian cleared for official export to China
On August 19, 2024, Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and China’s General Administration of Customs signed a Protocol on Inspection, Plant Quarantine, and Food Safety for Frozen Durian Exports from Vietnam to China.
Malaysia began exporting fresh durians to China on August 24, two months after the two countries signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of the fruit to China, according to Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.
The second Krong Pak durian festival will be held from August 31 to September 2 in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, aiming to honour durian growers, attract investment and promote the development of a sustainable durian ecosystem.
Vietnam’s durian exports totaled approximately 1.7 billion USD from January to July. With favorable conditions, exports will rise in the remaining months, potentially reaching 3.5 billion USD by year-end.
Given favourable conditions, agricultural experts predict that durian exports will grow in the remaining months of the year, potentially pushing the total value to 3.5 billion USD by the year’s end.
