Hanoi (VNA) –  Online shopping and hunting for promotional items has become a habit of many people, especially Gen Z, or individuals born in the mid-90s.

With just a smartphone and few clicks, they can make a purchase and have products delivered to their home without wasting too much time and effort going somewhere to choose.

A survey conducted by Lazada – an e-commerce platform showed that 58% of Vietnamese people think they will continue to purchase products on e-commerce platforms due to its convenience.

Le Thi Khanh Hien, a fourth-year student of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education said she chooses online shopping because she is too busy with her study and doing extra work.

Hien often accesses shopping apps to find and purchase products online, adding that sometimes she gets discounts and free shipping codes so their prices were very cheap.

Just like Hien, Ho Thien Canh, a clerk at an office in District 3, Ho Chi Minh is addicted to online shopping.

“I can order everything on the apps, from fresh food, clothes, household appliances and even gifts,” he told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

Making purchases online does not only help him save time but also avoid struggling in a crowded market, Canh said.

With the strong development of social networks such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, many businesses regularly use online advertising on these social platforms to attract customers, especially Gen Z, who make up 30% of the total shoppers.

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City organised a livestreaming event for the first time to promote consumption during the year-end season and help merchants rapidly adapt to the new method of selling products. Dozens of KOLs joined hands with traders at Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to livestream to sell food and fashion products in the framework of the Ho Chi Minh City Shoppertainment 2023 - Ben Thanh Heritage Market” in mid-December.

A lot of stores and supermarkets under the Saigon Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) also carried out big promotion programmes to attract customers on this occasion.

In addition to offering discounts up to 50% or other incentives for clothing and household appliances, customers can receive a voucher worth 50,000 VND (2 USD) for invoices from 500,000 VND when purchasing online.

Studies pointed out that up to 85% of Gen Z learn about products through social networks, e-commerce platforms or websites and 72% of them are willing to spend more to shop in their daily life.

About 72% of Gen Z have the habit of shopping online through e-commerce platforms, especially Shopee. More than 20% have chosen other popular e-commerce sites such as Tiki, Lazada, Facebook or websites/.
