Gifts presented to children with cleft lip, palate

Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social AffairsNguyen Thi Ha visited and presented gifts to children who are receivingtreatment for cleft lip, cleft palate and odontogenic cysts at the NationalHospital of Odonto – Stomatology in Hanoi on April 17.

Gifts worth 500,000 VND (22 USD) each weregranted to 58 children from Hanoi and the northern provinces of Phu Tho, BacKan, Lao Cai and Dien Bien, who received surgeries funded by Operation SmileVietnam – a nonprofit medical service organisation.

Some 2,000 babies are born with cleft lipand cleft palate every year in Vietnam.

Since 1994, the National Fund for VietnameseChildren (NFVC) has run Operation Smile to provide cleft lip and cleft palatesurgeries for children. To date, nearly 30,000 children have benefited from theprogramme.

The NFVC has also mobilised resources toprovide post-surgery assistance for children, thus helping them practicepronunciation and integrate into the community.-VNA

Saigon River pedestrian bridge set to be joined on October 21

The assembly comprises a main bridge structure weighing about 1,400 tonnes and a specialised steel supporting frame weighing around 2,000 tonnes. During testing, about 30 self-propelled modular transporters were used to lift the assembly 40cm off the ground for technical inspections. Sensors and monitoring equipment recorded key parameters.

Hanoi breaks ground on 299-hectare safari park

Its key features will include animal habitats modelled on natural ecosystems, veterinary and research facilities, educational exhibitions and recreational areas. Green spaces and water bodies will cover about 81.8% of the site, providing ecological corridors and suitable habitats for wildlife.
