Bangkok (VNA/NNT) - Thailand has exported5.5 million tonnes of rice during the first five months of this year and is expected to reachits export target of 11 million tonnes by the end of the year.
Thailand continues to be a major rice seller in the globalmarket, with around 5.5 million tonnes of rice already exported during the firstfive months of 2017. If the trend continues, the amount of rice exported thisyear will reach up to 11 million tonnes, or 10 million THB worth of rice,breaking the previous record of 10.8 million tonnes in 2014.

Factors, including overseas demand and declining global ricesupplies, have led to an increase in rice export volumes from Thailand.
Thailand's National Rice Policy Committee is set to convene ameeting on June 26, where the Ministry of Commerce will propose a plan to releasethe remaining rice in government stockpiles from July to August. It is hopedthat by the end of September, all stockpiled rice will be released.-VNA/NNT
