Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai issued an order on November 28 to begin a project to upgrade and expand the Ha Bac Fertiliser Plant in Bac Giang province, which aims to raise its annual capacity to 500,000 tonnes from the current 180,000 tonnes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Hai stressed that the project is very important because it is part of the chemical sector’s development strategy to ensure sufficient supply of fertiliser for agricultural production and national food security.

Hai said the plant, which was built in 1960 and upgraded in 2002 with the support of the Chinese Government, is operating effectively.

Chinese contractors will continue to help the Vietnam Chemical Group (VCG) to implement the expansion project, he added.

The Chinese Economic and Commercial Counsellor to Vietnam, Hu Suojin, asked Chinese contractors to obey Vietnamese laws and work closely with Vietnamese investors and sub-investors to execute the project with the highest quality and on schedule.

Invested by the VCG’s Ha Bac Fertiliser Ltd, Co., the upgrade project has a total investment of 568.6 million USD and will use modern technologies to protect the environment and save energy.

Once operational in 2014, the plant is expected to generate jobs for around 400 local workers and contribute some 200 billion VND to the state budget annually./.
