Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi Ao dai Festival 2016, taking place from October 14 – 16 at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, is part of activities to honour Hanoi’s cultural values and promote fashion-based tourism products.
Do Dinh Hong, Director of the capital’s Department of Tourism, made the announcement at a press conference on October 6.
Themed “The Quintessence of Vietnam’s Ao Dai”, the festival will include exhibitions, art and cultural activities featuring the beauty of the Ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress). Workshops on preserving the Ao dai’s traditional values will also be held during the event.
Collection of past and present Ao dai will be displayed along with materials and old looms used to make the traditional costume at an exhibition entitled “Hanoi’s Ao dai Festival”.
This year’s event will highlight the grace of Hanoi’s Ao dai which reflects Thang Long’s traditional features, said designer Minh Hanh.
Visitors can also enjoy Hanoi’s cuisine, cyclo and motorbike parades and have their own ao dai made at the event.-VNA
Ao dai to be shown in New York
Nguyen Thuan Viet, a fashion designer in Vietnam, will showcase 30 traditional ao dai in New York City with the help of 15 Vietnamese models from New York City, New Jersey and Washington on May 23.
