Hanoi (VNA) – Police of Hoang Mai district in Hanoi discovered six sacks containing dozens of elephant tusks in a raid of the house of a man named Phan Trong Kien in Hoang Liet commune on July 17.
The sacks were found in a room on the third floor of the house and in a nearby house owned by Kien’s relative.
Kien told the police that he bought the tusks at a price of eight million VND (351 USD) per kilogram.
Earlier the same day, the police caught three men transporting 15 kilograms of elephant tusks on their bikes. They confessed that Kien was the owner of tusks.
According to initial information, Kien was a supplier of animals for restaurants.
The case is being under further investigation.-VNA
