Photos on Palestine’s Jerusalem were showcased at the VUFO headquarters in Ba Dinh district. In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly called for the annual observance of November 29 as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. On that day, in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine. On December 1, 2005, the Assembly requested the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and the Division for Palestinian Rights, as part of the observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on November 29, to continue organising an annual exhibition on Palestinian rights or a cultural event in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the UN. The exhibition is displaying 20 photos which mainly feature buildings in the Palestinian city, which is also known with other names such as Beit al Maqdis, Al Quds ash Sharif, and ‘Ola al Quiblatain’. Situated on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world and considered to be a holy city for the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The exhibition serves as a good chance for Vietnamese people to understand more about the city in particular and the Western Asian nation in general. (Photo: VietnamPlus)

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed by the United Nations on November 29 each year. The date was chosen because of its meaning and significance to the Palestinian people. On that day in 1947, the Assembly adopted the resolution on the partition of Palestine. According to the UN, the day provides an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people have yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the General Assembly, namely the right to self-determination without external interference, the right to national independence and sovereignty, and the right to return to their homes and property, from which they have been displaced.
