Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanhhad a meeting on September 7 with an international delegation attending theconference on the 20-year restoration and promotion of Thang Long ImperialCitadel.

The delegation was led by Marie-Laure Lavenir, DirectorGeneral of the International Council for the Preservation of Monuments andSites (ICOMOS) –  an independenceadvisory agency for the UNESCO.

Thanh highlighted Vietnam’s commitments to the UNESCOin preserving heritage, saying that from now to 2025, the city will focus on threemajor tasks of strengthening archaeological work; displaying artifacts relatedto Thang Long Imperial Citadel; and restoring tourist areas.

He expressed his hope that the conference will contribute tothe restoration, preservation and promotion of values of Thang Long ImperialCitadel, helping promoting the unique cultural values of Thang Long-Hanoi andVietnam among international friends.

For her part, Lavenir highlighted the importance of theconference which reviews the 20-year efforts in preserving Thang Long ImperialCitadel as well as the city’s cooperation with research institutes as well asdomestic and foreign experts in the work.

The meeting was part of the two-day workshop held onSeptember 8-9 to discuss the 20-year experiences in the preservation of theImperial Citadel of Thang Long.

The workshop is co-organised by the Hanoi People’sCommittee, UNESCO Office in Hanoi, and the Vietnam Association of HistoricalSciences. The event also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the ConventionConcerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage – the 1972UNESCO Convention./.

According to Vietnam Customs, bilateral trade reached 59.43 million USD in the first nine months of 2026, up 9.7% year-on-year. Vietnam’s exports totalled 45.47 million USD, an increase of 10.2%, while imports from Tunisia stood at 13.96 million USD, up 8.3%.

November 24, 2026 marks the first Vietnamese Culture Day, meant to put the Politburo’s Resolution 80-NQ/TW on cultural development into practice. Po Klong Garai: Cham towers preserving centuries of history

The complex comprises three main structures: the Chinh (Main) Tower, Cong (Gate)Tower and Lua (Fire) Tower. The Main Tower stands about 20.5 metres tall, featuring a square base and tiered roofs that narrow towards the top. The Fire Tower, with its distinctive boat-shaped curved roof, adds a contrasting feature to the ensemble. Columns, niches, lotus motifs and decorative patterns adorn the brick walls.

On the morning of October 10, a ceremony was held at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square in Hanoi to launch a nationwide campaign encouraging regular physical exercise under the message “Everyone should choose at least one suitable sport to practise regularly”.
