Happiness road to plateau of beauty

To reach the UNESCO recognized Dong Van Karst Plateau, visitors have to take a road, named Hanh Phuc (or Happiness). Not many people know the story of how a monumental road was built in the 1960s.

During a visit to the area in 1961, President Ho Chi Minh named the road “Happiness” because it helped lift the face of the region, giving locals a happier and better life.

In 1959, the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh asked for opening a 184km road from Ha Giang town to Dong Van district, crossing Ma Pi Leng peak.

To complete the historical road, a large number of young volunteers in northern Vietnam were mobilised.

In recent years, the number of tourists visiting Ha Ging has increased significantly, especially to places such as Dong Van rock plateau and Ma Pi Leng./.
